Another ‘D’ down: Rep. Norquist not seeking reelection
According to the state’s liberal blog, Cottonmouth, Democrat Rep. David Norquist will not seek reelection.
Here’s the post from Cottonmouth:
“I just got off of the phone with Rep. David Norquist, the Vice Chair of Ways and Means in the House, and he confirmed an Mississippi Business Journal report that he will not be running for reelection this year. Norquist, the father of three young boys, has decided that his obligations to them are more important than being in the Legislature. I can’t argue with that, but I will miss having Norquist around. He was a tireless advocate for his district, his alma mater (Delta State), and working Mississippians. In addition, there’s no current Mississippi politician better at delivering a one-liner than David Norquist.”
Norquist was one of the liberals who voted for McCoy and the liberal leadership team in January 2008. His district is HD 28, Bolivar, Sunflower and Washington Counties.
Republican Tommy Taylor has qualified in this District.

This is not a slam dunk district for the R’s. It has a high 40′s BVAP but the white vote outside the DSU faculty is almost all R. Turnout and the quality of the candidate for the R’s are the two keys to a win here.
I would agree with your assessment rub. You’re right on. Quality will make the difference here.
